VIENNA, V.A., November 16, 2020 – Defense News today announced that a team of reporters made up of Valerie Insinna, Aaron Mehta and David Larter has won the Michael A. Dornheim Award from the National Press Club for their series, “The Hidden Troubles of the F-35.”

Insinna was the lead reporter on the project.

“Valerie’s outstanding work on the F-35 series demonstrated the depth of both her knowledge and her sourcing on one of the Pentagon’s most high-profile weapon systems,” said Mike Gruss, executive editor of Sightline Media’s business to government group, and editor of Defense News. “We are proud of the team’s work and the collective reporting of our newsroom which repeatedly delivers some of the industry’s most trusted and substantive reporting.”

The Michael A. Dornheim Award is presented in honor of the late Michael Dornheim, a longtime reporter and editor at Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine. It is one of the most coveted awards in the annual National Press Club Journalism Awards and is presented annually to journalists who report about aerospace, defense, the airline industry, or aerospace science and engineering. This year’s awardees will be recognized in a virtual ceremony on Dec. 2.
