Vienna, VA – Andrew Chuter, European Editor for Defense News, has been selected to receive the 2016 Lauren “Deac” Lyman Award from the Aerospace Industries Association. Chuter is being honored for outstanding achievement in aerospace communications.

“We at Defense News are excited that AIA has chosen to recognize Andrew Chuter’s efforts,” said Jill Aitoro, Executive Editor. “Andrew has worked tirelessly to build and grow the Defense News presence throughout Europe and beyond. He’s been a tremendous editor and an invaluable asset to the publication.”

Andrew Chuter has been leading the Defense News team of reporters in Europe since 2002. Chuter’s reporting spans all aspects of the defense industry including extensive coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as major military aircraft programs including the F-35 Lighting II. He was also the only reporter to interview UK Prime Minister David Cameron after the release of Great Britain’s Strategic Defense and Security review last year. Chuter joined Defense News having previously been News Editor of Flight International for 10 years. Prior to that he was News Editor of Jane’s Defence Weekly.

Chuter will receive the award at a special dinner held in his honor Monday, December 5 and will be recognized at AIA’s 52nd Annual Year-End Luncheon December 6. The award is named after Lauren “Deac” Lyman, a Pulitzer-prize winning aviation reporter with the New York Times who later had a distinguished career as a public relations executive with United Aircraft, a predecessor to United Technologies Corporation. First awarded in 1972, the prize goes to an aerospace journalist or public relations professional who exhibits Lyman’s high standard of excellence. UTC is the longtime sponsor of the award.
