Defense News won national and regional “Azbee” awards of excellence from the American Society of Business Press Editors. One of the most competitive award programs for trade media, the Azbees honor the best in business-to-business media.

Defense News won National Gold for Print on-site trade show coverage for AUSA Show Daily. For three years, Defense News and its sister publication Army Times have been the exclusive media partner of the Association of the United States Army for its Annual Meeting, the largest land power exposition and professional development forum in North America. Each year, the AUSA Show Daily provided attendees with the news and analysis coming out of the show each day – a print roundup that complements the video and web coverage that filters into the digital show daily.

Defense News also made the Top 10 National Overall Excellence for Best Cross-Platform Package of the Year for the special multimedia report 30 Years of Defense News. To honor its own 30-year anniversary as the premier brand covering the defense market, Defense News showcased the most influential moments in defense for the last three decades. Incorporating television, online videos, commentaries, print packages, and social media campaigns, Defense News spurred a dialogue among decision makers around the globe about the people, programs and innovations that shaped defense and national security strategies.

“We are proud that Defense News won these Azbee honors, from among more than 1,200 media entries that vied for the award this year,” said Jill Aitoro, Executive Editor of Defense News. “It is a great honor to be singled out and recognized by a peer review board of more than 90 senior B2B editors for the exceptional multimedia journalism that is the hallmark of Defense News.”

“It’s especially gratifying to receive Azbee awards that recognize two top priorities for our company: multi-platform, multimedia journalism and cross-brand collaboration,” said David Smith, president of Sightline Media, the parent company for Defense News. “The 30th anniversary project was the powerful result of a joint effort of our talented and experienced reporters and our videography, photography and digital teams. And the AUSA show coverage was made possible by teamwork between Defense News with Army Times, their partner brand in our company. The commitment, collaboration and effort of reporters and editors from both brands made this project a tremendous success.  These awards show the collective power of our brands and our talent.”
