The 2021 Military Times Service Members of the Year are Announced

Arlington, VA, August 26, 2021 – Military Charity Organization today released the honorees for Military Times’ 2021 Service Members of the Year Awards. These awards recognize service members from each branch of the military who demonstrate pride, dedication and courage beyond their call of duty. They display a high level of professionalism, concern for fellow service members and commitment to community service.

In an effort to keep the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration will take place online, in the form of a video series highlighting each winner. Military Times spoke with each winner at length and is featuring their story both online and in video format. Kyra Phillips, Investigative Correspondent at ABC News also participated in the video series to help tell their story as narrator.

Military Charity Organization is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes to recognize, salute and highlight the exemplary service of active duty personnel serving in each branch of the U.S. Armed Services, and support other organizations conducting activities with similar goals. Military Charity Organization is an independent affiliate of Military Times, the organizer of Service Members of the Year since 2001.

Military Charity Organization has also awarded a Veteran of the Year. This award pays special tribute to a veteran who has continued to serve the community since leaving the active service and is presented to a military veteran whose distinguished success and achievement in the civilian sector embodies the values, skills and opportunities created by military service.

This year’s honorees are as follows:

SOLDIER OF THE YEAR:  Sgt. Ezra Maes

MARINE OF THE YEAR: Sgt. Brandon Antoine

SAILOR OF THE YEAR: Cmdr. Niels Olson

AIRMAN OF THE YEAR:  SMSgt. Jeremy Mayo

COAST GUARDSMAN OF THE YEAR:  AST1 Trevor Salt

VETERAN OF THE YEAR: John Peck
